Discovering Doha airport

It was my first time flying with Qatar Airways. We took off from Abidjan to Doha in the Boeing 787. Here’s how my experience was at the Hamad international airport.

Qatar Airways plane

In the plane, the legroom was okay, but the head rest was not adapted for kids. It was too high and uncomfortable for sleeping. I only ate fries and chicken nuggets from Burger King in the plane because I don’t like plane food. We had a stopover in Accra and the total flight duration was around 10 hours. When arriving in Qatar, we had to fly over the water to land. The runway was next to the sea.

Discovering the airport and search for food

Upon arriving in Doha, we went through security check. We didn’t have to remove electronics from our bags or remove our shoes. It was easy and fast. We used the escalator to go down and that’s when we saw the orchard. The orchard is awesome and nice. It was full of plants and trees and felt relaxing. There was like a bridge that you can walk over the orchard and enjoy the view. We saw a C-shaped sitting area with plants around it. And I found the sculpture of an elephant stuck in a pot hole while walking through the orchard. We were hungry after the long flight and were looking for food until we found a KFC and a Burger King. We chose the Burger King because the KFC had too many people. When we were done eating, we kept the leftovers in my bag. We went back to the orchard sitting area to rest.

Bicycle and table with wildlife animals

I saw a bronze statue of wildlife animals on a bicycle. It is called Wildlife Wonderscape. The artists that made the sculpture are Gillie and Marc. I also saw the sculpture called The wild table of love. It is a 6 ton bronze table which travellers can sit alongside endangered, wild animals. It includes the Arabian Oryx (the logo of Qatar Airways), red fox, and hoopoe bird, sharing a symbolic Qatari feast.

Wooden sculpture

We were walking across the airport until I found a giant wooden statue. Its name is SMALL LIE. The name of the designer is Brian Donnelly also known as KAWS. The statue has crossed out X eyes, and it has a long nose like Pinocchio.

Giant yellow teddy bear

We were walking to our gate when I saw a giant yellow teddy bear. Its name is: untitled Lamp bear. The lamp shines because there is a light bulb in it. It lights up the bear below it. The whole sculpture is made from bronze. And if you didn’t know where the canary yellow colour comes from, it’s just paint on the bronze. The Artist of this sculpture is from Switzerland and named Urs Fischer. The whole statue costed $6.8 million.

After that, we were about to board the plane. But before we boarded, I took a picture next to a red Ferrari. And then we got on the plane, I couldn’t wait to go back to BKK (Bangkok)!
